Auburn Legion Seniors Beat Hiawatha, Kansas; Lost to Host Plattsmouth

Ethan Emshoff fouled the ball back on this trip to the plate. He normally catches for the Auburn Armstrong Cabinets Seniors.
The Auburn Armstrong Cabinets Seniors Baseball Team went 1-1 in recent road games. The locals beat Hiawatha, Kansas 11-3 in five innings on July 9 and fell to Plattsmouth 3-0 on July 12. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak.

Coach Pat Engles said about the win over Hiawatha, "Joe Alston pitched to the first three batters in the first inning.

He was relieved by Austin Graham who finished the game for Auburn. Austin [Graham] has been very consistent for us on the mound all year and he had another good performance at Hiawatha. We continued to do what we;ve being doing recently and that is getting good pitching, good defense, and timely hits, especially at the lower end of our batting order."

In the top of the first inning in Kansas, Damond Wennihan walked and scored on Joe Alston's double to put Auburn up 1-0. Matt Oliver walked but was unable to advance farther.

In the bottom of inning one, the first three Hiawatha batters walked and two eventually scored to put their team on top 2-1.

In the top of the second inning, Ethan Emshoff walked, Zach Wittmann and Blake Bans singled to give Armstrong Cabinets a 3-2 lead.

Graham faced the minimum number of batters in the second and third innings.

In the top of Auburn's third, Grant Cole singled, Alston and Graham reached on errors, Garrett Collin singled, Ethan Emshoff drew his second base on balls, Wittmann and DJ Shallenberger singled, and Austin Emshoff doubled home two base runners. Wittmann had an RBI. The locals boosted their lead to 9-2.

Auburn scored twice in its half of the fifth. Ethan Emshoff walked, Shallenberger singled home one run, Bans walked and Austin Emshoff singled home another runner. The visitors had boosted their lead to 11-2 at this point.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Kansans capitalized on an error, a walk and sacrifice to get their final run and to make what turned out to be the 11-3 final score.

Game at Plattsmouth

The locals lost at Plattsmouth on Sunday night to conclude regular season play. Cole pitched the first five innings and Wennihan the sixth.
